I finally bought an iPhone, I bought it two days after it’s launch in India. People had already started asking me about plan to change my last cell phone because it’d already been 6 months since I did that.
I am loving it, it does not have a few basic features, I am missing the copy-paste and the message forward, but it’s a marble, hardware and usability are simply awesome. Now when I have a Official Mac, I love the marriage of an iPhone and a MacBook Pro.
I spent 750 buck and bought a rubber cover but ended up not using it, I use a sticky screen guard though.
WiFi, GPS, EDGE, 3G (Not available in India) are faster and better then all my earlier cell phones, then best in this thing is the iPod.
I am lovin’ it.

Fedora Core 6 on Compaq Presario V2000: Running WiFi (ipw2200)0
Today I installed FC6 on my Compaq Presario V2000, had to do some tweaks to get the WiFi running. Here is what I did:
1) Install Livna RPM Repository information:
$ rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm
2) Install ipw2200 firmware:
$ yum install ipw2200-firmware
3) Add following to /etc/modprobe.conf:
options ipw2200 hwcrypto=1 associate=0
4) Add ESSID and CHANNEL in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1:
ESSID=
CHANNEL=
5) Add the KEY (WEP or WPA etc.) to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/keys-eth1.
6) Start:
$ ifup eth1
It starting working for me, did less struggle as compared to FC5. ![]()

FM Radio Stations in India1
I always thought, only AIR and a few private music broadcasting companies own the public radio channels in India but after reading this…
http://www.asiawaves.net/india-fm-radio.htm
There are 11 FM Radio Stations in Bangalore and 12 in Delhi, can anybody believe that?
Moto Ming (A 1200) Launched in India2
Linux powered Moto Ming (Motorola A1200) was launched in India two weeks back. It’s one of the latest Linux based Moto phones. Phone looks awesome and is too delicate to handle. After beeing in my hands for two weeks it has already got a few scratches :(. 2 MP camera, Smooth rubber coated body, translucent cover, bussiness card reader, touch screen and really great sound quality make this phone even more must to have. Ming in chinese means crystal clear and bright, this phone proves the meaning. J2ME applications are easily installable, and Yahoo! has promised to launch “Y! Go” for Motorola phones too. ![]()
My WRT54G V5 Has Linux Now1
When I bought a Linksys WRT54G Version 5 around 10 months back I was hittng my head against the wall after learning that it runs on VxWorks instead of Linux. The playground I expected was lost. But Thanks to Jeremy who has written a VxWorks Killer and nicely documented it, I flashed my unit’s firmware with Linux based dd-wrt micro. Kudos to him, there is so much to look inside. ![]()
My Nokia 3230 Experience0

Nokia 3230 is the latest contribution of the gadget bazaar to my pockets. I exchanged this with my old Nokia 6610 and got a pretty nice exchange price. This phone has almost every feature which one can think of, though it misses some. Blue-tooth, GPRS, MP3 Player, FM Radio, 1.3 Mega Pixel (Effectively 1.23 Mega Pixels) camera with night mode, excellent themes’ support to name a few. It’s got nice sound quality with ultra high volume of the hands-free. Nokia has improved the FM sound output quality with this handset, it’s simply amazing, stereo with pretty good bass also. Comes with 32 MB memory card which can be extended up to 1 Gigs. Low picture quality in darker sites, mono mp3 player output, slow animation rendering are the cons.
If you can live with the mono mp3 output, small crappy keypad and a bit slow rendering then this Nokia thingy can be a nice option for you.
