Fedora Core 6 on Compaq Presario V2000: Running WiFi (ipw2200)0

Posted by abhinav in Compaq Presario V2000, Fedora Core 6, Gadgets, Linux, OpenSource, Redhat, Technical, Yum, ipw2200, rpms, wifi (Sunday December 10, 2006 at 4:15 am)

Today I installed FC6 on my Compaq Presario V2000, had to do some tweaks to get the WiFi running. Here is what I did:

1) Install Livna RPM Repository information:

$ rpm -ivh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-6.rpm

2) Install ipw2200 firmware:

$ yum install ipw2200-firmware

3) Add following to /etc/modprobe.conf:

options ipw2200 hwcrypto=1 associate=0

4) Add ESSID and CHANNEL in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1:

ESSID=
CHANNEL=

5) Add the KEY (WEP or WPA etc.) to
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/keys-eth1.

6) Start:

$ ifup eth1

It starting working for me, did less struggle as compared to FC5. :)

Moto Ming (A 1200) Launched in India4

Posted by abhinav in FLOSS, Gadgets, India, Linux, Technical, mobile phones (Tuesday October 17, 2006 at 1:21 am)

Linux powered Moto Ming (Motorola A1200) was launched in India two weeks back. It’s one of the latest Linux based Moto phones. Phone looks awesome and is too delicate to handle. After beeing in my hands for two weeks it has already got a few scratches :(. 2 MP camera, Smooth rubber coated body, translucent cover, bussiness card reader, touch screen and really great sound quality make this phone even more must to have. Ming in chinese means crystal clear and bright, this phone proves the meaning. J2ME applications are easily installable, and Yahoo! has promised to launch “Y! Go” for Motorola phones too. :)

My WRT54G V5 Has Linux Now1

When I bought a Linksys WRT54G Version 5 around 10 months back I was hittng my head against the wall after learning that it runs on VxWorks instead of Linux. The playground I expected was lost. But Thanks to Jeremy who has written a VxWorks Killer and nicely documented it, I flashed my unit’s firmware with Linux based dd-wrt micro. Kudos to him, there is so much to look inside. :)

BarCamp Bangalore

Bangalore BarCamp was organised at Yahoo! Bangalore, a super whole-day Unconference with 150+ participation. For the uninitiated BarCamp was initiated by Ross Mayfield, Chris Messina and company in response to criticism of FooCamp which was started by Tim O’Reilly.
Here are the minutes:

Chris

Chris Messina who *works* on Flock and Tara Hunt of Riya talking on Microformats, explained it beautifully, it’s use for hCard and hCalender is simply awesome.
